IMPROVING INTERIOR DESIGN'S STUDENT AWARENESS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT THROUGH EMBEDDED COURSE CONTENT

摘要
The role of interior designer has developed beyond creativity and artistry to become a responsible project manager for interior project. Thus one of the important criteria of a project manager is the ability to deliver the project successfully to the client. For that reason, knowledge of project management must be introduced to the students during academic years of interior design program. This paper considers components of embedding project management within the interior design curriculum. The primary focus is the relevance of project management to interior design professional development. This paper will present some results of the analysis of interior design practitioner's views based on their problems of managing interior design project experiences. Fourteen (14) sessions of interviews were conducted which include three (3) interior design project manager, four (4) interior designers, four (4) architects, two (2) interior contractors and one (1) construction manager. The proposition will be drawn from the contextualisation based on the themes derives from interviews. Hence, the aim of this research work is to represent the new paradigm among interior design educators and practitioners to the students' future career development, and the growing importance of this topic to professional bodies. The findings from this study together with the literature review will become the foundation and framework for the main research.
