A method of measuring the parameters of distortions of a pulsed signal induced by the effect of birefringence in fiber-optic transmission lines

摘要
A method of quantitative determination of the parameters of distortions in a pulse that arise as a consequence of birefringence in an optical fiber is considered. Existing methods of estimating this type of distortion that are used in communication networks are analyzed. A measurement approach by means of which the effective displacement and broadening of the pulse may be determined for each wavelength of incoming radiation is developed. The method may be used for polarized mode dispersion analysis in networks with wavelength division multiplexing.
