摘要
The objective of this work is to perform simulation and experimental validation of a polycentric prosthetic knee through finite element analysis. The prosthetic knee may be subjected to a load of 4.7 to 5.6 times body weight during various activities which are taken into consideration during its design with a higher factor of safety. Static strength test has been performed to ensure its structural integrity as per the International Organization for Standardization ISO 10328:2006 standard. ANSYS 20.1 workbench has been used for its simulation to study the stress distribution, after obtaining accurate dimensioning of knee components and generating a 3D computer-aided design model. An experimental structural strength test has been performed to validate the findings of the simulation. The results indicate that the tested prosthetic knee sample is mildly sufficient to outstrip the static strength test. The validation result has confirmed the accuracy of the finite element model. The mean absolute error percentage between finite element-based simulation and the experimental result is estimated to be 10%. Copyright (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
