摘要
Road tunnelling in Germany can look back at a long tradition. For over 150 years, it provides a significant contribution to creating and maintaining the infrastructure as a crucial basis for the economic development of a modern industrial society. Historical background information, especially about the beginnings and the development of the railways, as well as the networks of road and railbound public transport until nowadays, shows clearly the relationships. The comprehensive statistical figures, supplemented by explanatory graphics are under-pinning the textual explanations.
