摘要
Manufacturing technologies have been evolving with the advent of new processes and techniques to make better products. The advent of the third industrial revolution marked the entry of digital technology into the realms of modem manufacturing. The next industrial revolution aims to bridge the gap between conceptual designs and finished products. Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are a key contributor to the factories of the future and hold immense potential applications in the field of manufacturing. But additive manufacturing is facing some key issues regarding product quality and standardization. The present study focuses on gaining a well understanding of the AM processes as well as the key process parameters which influence the mechanical behavior of the built parts. The present study explores the fused deposition modelling (FDM) process and the direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) process. The part quality in terms of tensile strength is evaluated for both the processes and the influence of different process constraints like layer thickness, build orientation, laser power and scan speed is discussed.
