2-Naphthol and various aldehydes were used for the synthesis of 14-aryl- or 14-alkyl-14H-di-benzo[a,j]xanthene in the presence of nano-SnCl(4)a (TM) SiO2 under solvent-free condition. Nano-SnCl(4)a (TM) SiO2 is an efficient, readily available, and reusable catalyst for this reaction resulting in good to excellent yields.
