Auditing for railway systems engineering capability

Railway systems engineering is becoming increasingly recognised as an effective means of addressing the emerging complexities of modem major railway projects. Many applications of systems engineering to railways require the further development of traditional systems engineering techniques with the result that appropriate standards do not exist against which to audit a project team for their railway systems engineering capability. A capability assessment model has therefore been devised and applied to the Train Control System and associated projects which are currently ongoing under the overall UK West Coast Route Modernisation Programme.
