摘要
A prominent economic geographer presents a structured overview of China's dynamic industrial sector, framed as an introduction to two empirical papers on the country's automobile and Internet industries. Engaging with these two papers and drawing on 2008 data (through August) from the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the author offers five insightful observations on the sector formulated during the onset of the global financial crisis in early October. He demonstrates some key features of the nature of growth and diversification of Chinese industries and their relationship with foreign capital, and focuses on the twin core issues of the socio-spatially uneven development and weak technological capability of the Country's industries. The paper's concluding section points to an emerging agenda for future economic-geographical research.
