The fractal structure of polymer particles

Fractal types and their characteristic quantities are reviewed. Studies on the structure of fractals and other disordered (1-200 nm range) systems carried out in terms of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) are described with particular reference to ion aggregates in styrene-(Zn, Co, or Ni) acrylate copolymers. The structure of ionomers can be described in terms of surface fractals, 2.01-2.44 in size. As temperature is raised, the fractal surface dimension diminishes.
