Psychiatric sequelae of brain injury in children and adolescents

Recent studies on the sequelae of brain injury in children and adolescents have used standardized assessment methods and diagnostic criteria. This is providing a more detailed picture of the relationships of sequelae to injury severity to other factors such as family functioning before the injury occurred. The risk of injury in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is discussed and the applicability of syndromes such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and oppositional defiant disorder to postinjury populations is questioned.
