Design and manufacture of composite struts for aerospace applications

摘要：
The case for employing the superior structural performance of composite materials in struts to be used in aerospace applications is presented. Design issues relating to general and local instability are reviewed, including experiments directed towards an assessment of the methods for predicting local instability. Features of bonded and integral end fittings are summarized, together with considerations relating to damage tolerance. Manufacturing methods for fabricating straight and tapered struts, including roll wrapping and filament winding are reviewed. Specific applications are described for aircraft, launch vehicles and satellites.
