An Optical Leaky Wave Antenna Excited by Parabolic Reflector

This paper presents optical leaky wave antenna excited by parabolic reflector using photonic bandgap (PBG). A grating waveguide (GWG) is a type of optical leaky wave antennas and produces optical dual sharp beam. The problem is that an adiabatic taper waveguide for the excitation of GWG becomes large size. Our proposed parabolic reflector using PBG is small size as compared to conventional adiabatic waveguide and it is possible to excite the GWG with good efficiency. We demonstrate the excitation of the GWG in the measurement and the comparison to the simulation result shows good agreement.
