New perspectives in engineering education

The changing nature of universities, driven by both economics and advances in information technology, is discussed and the resulting increase in distance education recognised. The special requirements for distance education in engineering are reviewed and the nature, desirability and methods of implementation of distance education engineering laboratory experiments are considered. It is concluded that such experiments may be conducted successfully by distance education provided realism is given the highest priority.
