Application of virtual analog simulation to enhance the learning of electronics and systems

In this paper, we describe the development of the application of PC-based analogue simulation of linear and nonlinear electronic systems in undergraduate teaching using freely available software. We show that the simulation can be performed on the electrical analogue of any system that can be represented by mathematical models. The simulation schematic can be prepared graphically and it follows closely the black diagram representation of the system. Typical examples from control and communication systems are used to demonstrate the simplicity of the method. These examples and others have been designed as student-centred self-paced learning aids for the purpose of enhancing students understanding of system performances.
