A Performance Study based on Comparative Analysis between SCIG and DFIG based Wind Energy Conversion System in a Microgrid at St. Martin's Island

摘要
In this paper, a comparative analysis based performance study of Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) and Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) wind turbine consisting wind enery conversion system (WECS) has been conducted for a renewable energy oriented microgrid for a sample population at St. Martin's Island in Bangladesh on MAT LAB/Simulink environment. The designed microgrid system consists of wind turbine farms - along with solar PV farm and AC loads. Based on simulation results as per varying natural conditions encountered by both type of wind turbine based farms, the opted type of wind turbine farm is included in microgrid along with PV farm to cater for maximum load demand of the community over the entire year. Finally, simulation study of the microgrid consisting the chosen type of wind turbine based farm and solar PV farm is performed for varying realistic circumstances and designed microgrid's desired functionality is examined.
