摘要
THE CORROSION behaviour of carbon steel was investigated in seawater. A suitable mechanism of corrosion is proposed based on the results obtained from the electrochemical and weight-loss measurements. The nature of the formed protective film on the alloy surface was been analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and was found to be a double layer consisting of Fe2O3 and Fe3O4. A metallographic study using scanning-electron microscopy showed the existence of pits along the alloy surface after ageing in seawater.
