Underlining the role methodology plays in justifying the construction of science, an epistemological reflection is made on library and information Science and the characteristics of scientific knowledge presented. Relations among Philosophy, Ontology, Epistemology, Methodology and Science are analysed. The scientific character of social sciences and humanities is shown, and within these that of Library and Information Science, whose object of study is outlined, and its main categories defined, Lastly, Interdisciplinarity is defined and its importance to Library Science demonstrated.
