Lower limb orthotic management for hemiplegia

We have been prescribed plastic ankle foot orthosis (AFO) for the majority of the CVA hemiplegia patient. The purpose of prescription of the plastic AFO in early recovery stage is to prevent ankle and foot deformities and to encourage ambulation. The conventional type AFO with two-direction control adjustable ankle joint is prescribe to the patient with weak knee extension in ambulation. For the patient with very unstable knee in standing, we use knee ankle foot orthosis with ring lock knee joint. We have several kinds of assembling orthosis in the rehabilitation division, and the patient can stand and walk in parallel bars with the orthosis at early stage of CVA rehabilitation.
