Although Argentina can still be considered a country of owners, rental housing is a growing practice and transversal to all households, regardless of their income level. However, the availability of affordable housing is inadequate and most renter households are severely housing costs burdened. In Argentina the evidence is scarce and outdated, unlike to other parts of the world and even in Latin American countries. In this context, this paper proposes to estimate the rent affordability in Argentina according to the latest edition of the National Household Expenditure Survey (ENGHo), carried out between 2017 and 2018, and to analyze how other socioeconomic and demographic factors affect access to affordable rental housing.
