摘要:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease which can adversely affect the skeletal system, causing detrimental bone effects such as bone quality deterioration, loss of bone strength, increased fracture risk, and impaired bone healing. One of the major mechanisms is the increase in T2DM-induced oxidative stress which results in an imbalance in bone remodeling and affects bone metabolism and bone regeneration. Recently, ROS-scavenging biomaterials have been identified as a type of promising therapeutic substance to alleviate oxidative stress in tissue microenvironment. The aim of this review is to elaborate T2DM mediated oxidative stress in bone tissues and current application of ROS-scavenging biomaterials in bone tissue engineering which provides a novel insight into biomaterials in diabetic bone tissue. This review summarizes the relationship between T2DM and bone metabolism disorders by explaining the effects of T2DM-induced oxidative stress on bone. Concluding current application of ROS-scavenging biomaterials in bone tissue engineering which provides a novel insight into biomaterials in diabetic bone tissue.image
