A multifunctional optical computing system based on directed logic and micro-ring resonator

摘要
Photonic integrated circuits are suffering rapid development and attracting lots of interests in various application fields, however, obstacles like low integration of photonics components and single functionality are severely hindering the progress. In this paper, we proposed a compact on-chip optical computing system, based on directed logic and micro-ring resonators (MRRs), achieving multiple functionalities including optical decoder, half-adder and multiplier. Through clever design, that proposed merely use several bus waveguides and six MRRs, and resulting in compactness with a footprint of 46.45 mu m x 35.44 mu m. Simulation results by finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed multifunctional optical computing system.
