摘要
Given the pervasive model minority stereotype, little attention has been given to the racialized experiences of Asian American students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Employing critical qualitative methods and Asian Critical Theory, this study examines the racialized experiences of 10 Asian American college students of different ethnicities, genders, and majors in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We critically examined Asian American students' racialized experiences and how they perceive their own racialization. Findings document ways that Asian American college students downplayed racism or sought to avoid confrontation over race, perceived representation as a panacea for racism, and circumvented intersectionality. Findings point to the importance of unpacking the racialization of Asian American students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and the necessity of creating programs and interventions via an intersectional lens that support Asian American students in identifying and naming their racialized realities and employing them to disrupt White supremacy and systemic racism.
