Marginal note to Inferno XXVIII

The note intends to clarify the particular emphasis given, with the singularity and the dispositio, to the terms that define the guilt and punishment of the schismatics, explaining the particularity of their infernal fate, which reveals a Dantesque way of conceiving and signaling the greater or lesser gravity of a sin, the difference between the more usual penalty analogous to guilt and the authentic law of retaliation. We also intended to clarify the meaning that the exemplary condemnation of an otherwise esteemed poet assumes among the structural motifs of the song.
