AN EXAMINATION OF MAURICE RAVEL'S BOLERO AND TROMBONE SOLOS IN THE WORK

Maurice Ravel, one of the most important composers of the 20th century, is considered one of the leading figures of impressionist music. The composer composed various orchestral works, operas, piano concertos, chamber music and songs, during his musical life, which lasted for about forty years. Bolero, one of the best-known works among orchestral works, was described as an orchestral texture without music, by the composer's expression, and even Ravel was puzzled when it was first performed. The trombone solo in the piece is one of the most important trombone solos encountered in national and international orchestral auditions. For the solo to be interpreted correctly by the performers, it is necessary to have developed technical and musical knowledge. The aim of this study is to contribute to the Turkish literature for the solution of some technical and musical difficulties in the solo and, give the performers a different perspective on the performance of the solo by giving general information about Ravel's life and the musical structure of his work Bolero. This research is a qualitative research that has been conducted as a literature review on Maurice Ravel's Bolero.
