A trial of translation of the perceived affective quality attributes for soundscape research to Japanese

This paper describes the selection process of Japanese-translated words for the perceived affective quality attributes of soundscape proposed in ISO/TS 12913-2:2018. In the process, it was revealed that the scale in ISO/TS 12913-2 is not for the perceived affective quality in correct meaning: "eventfulness" is not an affective quality but a cognitive attribute. Additionally, results showed the application of the circumplex model of affect in ISO/TS 12913-3 as incorrect. Consequently, it was pointed out that the method to calculate pleasantness and eventfulness using the results obtained using the scale proposed in ISO/TS 12913-3:2019 is inaccurate and that it is sometimes wrong. Therefore, ISO/TS 12913-2 and ISO/TS 12913-3 should be revised. Finally, the Japanesetranslated version of the perceived affective quality scale for soundscape studies is proposed.
