Fluctuations in the transceiver positions due to water motion may significantly affect the performance of underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC). This paper investigates the uplink transmission of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-UOWC system. To mitigate the induced performance degradation by the fluctuations, we propose a method based on coding that takes into account the spatial arrangement of MIMO transceivers. The relationship between the arrangement of each pair of transceivers and the fluctuations in their position is numerically evaluated. Our results show that an appropriate arrangement can reduce degradation. Furthermore, the use of coding techniques can further improve the performance of the MIMO-UOWC system.
