The author is the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada. This paper, on religious freedom, is his address to the 2022 convention of the Canadian Canon Law Society. He considers the topic in four parts: the public expression of religious faith and the threats to it in some parts of the world today; the social doctrine of the Catholic Church on freedom of religion, especially as enunciated in the Vatican II Declaration on Religious Freedom Dignitas humanae; religious freedom in international and regional treaties and in the Code of Canon Law; and the diplomacy of the Holy See in support of religious freedom.
