Optical and scintillation properties of (C4H9NH3)2PbI4 and phenyl group-introduced (C6H5C4H8NH3)2PbI4 single crystals assembling quantum well structures

(C4H9NH3)2PbI4 and (C6H5C4H8NH3)2PbI4 single crystals were synthesized by the slow cooling method, and their optical and scintillation properties were evaluated. Both samples had sharp X-ray diffraction peaks with intervals of (0 0 2l) (l = 5-7). Absorption edges of (C4H9NH3)2PbI4 and (C6H5C4H8NH3)2PbI4 were confirmed at 535 and 520 nm, respectively. They showed luminescence due to the recombination of excitons at 500-700 nm. Scintillation decay times at 0.5-0.7 ns were obtained by approximation of decay curves. The light yields of (C4H9NH3)2PbI4 and (C6H5C4H8NH3)2PbI4 were respectively evaluated to be 1200 and 1500 photons/5.5 MeV-alpha by measuring full absorption peaks of 241Am alpha-rays.
