OVERSHARING OF CONTENT ONLINE BY CHILDREN DURING THE HOLIDAYS AND PARENTAL CONTROL

Background: The activities that children engage in during holidays manifest as a dynamic interplay of cognitive, physical, emotional, and sociocultural dimensions. These undertakings collectively contribute to the multifaceted development of the child, encompassing cognitive enrichment, emotional maturation, physical well-being, or for example the cultivation of personal interests and hobbies. Methods: Within the framework of theoretical starting points, we approximate the nature of children's activities during the holiday season, when there is often an increase in children's activity on the Internet. An article presents an analysis of the negative consequences of content over-sharing among children on the Internet during the holiday season, pointing to the impact of this activity on children's online identity (O1). A second area of research interest is identifying appropriate parental approaches to help child users understand the consequences of their online activity and behaviour (O2). Results: Using content analysis, we examined 120 texts from randomly selected sources, which included scientific studies and texts from online initiatives from Slovakia and abroad that focus on kids' internet safety and digital awareness and responsibility. The result of the content analysis is a set of identified options for protecting children in the digital space. Conclusion: The result of the analysis is the identification of the negative consequences of oversharing content sharing among children on the Internet during the holiday season and appropriate parental approaches to help child users understand the consequences of their online activity and behaviour. The research takes place within the so-called parental mediation theory, which proves that the media effects on the child are influenced and even significantly mitigated by parents who are involved in monitoring children and supervising their use of the Internet.
