EBG Structure Integrated in Patch Antenna Element Plane for Bandwidth Enhancement

摘要
This paper focuses on improving the performance of patch antenna elements by utilizing entirely planar electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures and their application in reducing the mutual coupling between adjacent patch antenna elements. To achieve optimal radiation performance for microstrip antenna arrays with a typical inter-element spacing (0.5 lambda(0)), the EBG structure is placed between adjacent patch elements to reduce the mutual coupling, thereby improving the bandwidth of the patch antenna element.
