EVALUATION OF DPR PRODUCTS WITH GROUND-BASED RADAR NETWORK OVER JAPAN

The Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) on the core satellite of the GPM mission has been working for nearly 10 years, and the standard product version 07 has been produced. For the further improvement, surface-level precipitation rate estimates (PRES) in the DPR products are evaluated over Japan by using ground-based radar network called XRAIN. Considering the quality of XRAIN, the evaluation was limited to land areas. It is found that the RMSE increases when the incidence angle is smaller and elevation is higher. In KuPR and the dual-frequency products, the bias ratio of PRES to XRAIN is higher when the adjustment factor. is larger. These results suggest that the use of surface reference technique should be improved.
