Phase Stable 2-Bit Reconfigurable Reflective Metasurface for 6G Wireless Communications

摘要
The present work proposes a novel reconfigurable metasurface topology, intended to be used as unit cell of a RIS. The designed metasurface is based on a Magneto-Electric Dipole topology, whose performance is enhanced by an annular parasitic patch. The latter element increases the phase tuning range, operated by only one varactor diode, and it extends the working band by stabilizing the phase derivative in the different tuning states. The MED based unit cell, realized in low cost design, is numerically characterized, and its performance is demonstrated through the simulation on a 20 x 20 unit cells active RIS. Due to its good performance and low cost solution, the proposed MED based unit cell represents a promising candidate for the next generation of RIS, intended to support the future 5G and 6G telecommunication scenarios.
