摘要
Multilevel Inverters (MLIs) are gaining attention in the field of high-power medium voltage applications. The compact design of MLIs results in development of various new topologies. In this article, a novel Cross-Tied MLI topology is proposed. The basic unit with trinary sequence selection of DC sources generates 9-levels with twelve switches and two DC voltage sources. However, the extended version of the basic unit with n-modules generate 3(n+1) levels using 7n + 5 switches and n + 1 DC voltage sources. The procedures for the selection of voltage sources for the proposed inverter is elaborated. Basic unit and extended version of the proposed MLI are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink platform with Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique and analyzed them with various recent topologies. From the results, it is analyzed that the proposed inverter gives better performance compared to recent topologies. Also, the harmonics at the output side are maintained according to IEEE standards.
