摘要
Addressing the complex landscape of SCD requires multifaceted strategies. Advances in treatment and research offer hope, with the expanded use of cell-based therapies and targeted medications on the horizon. However, disparities in care, fueled by racial bias and systemic issues, persist. To combat these challenges, a comprehensive approach is essential. This includes establishing more dedicated SCD centers, enhancing provider education and interest in the field, and involving patients in decision-making processes and research development. Efforts to reduce disparities must encompass financial accessibility, patient advocacy, and innovative treatments. Promoting diversity in health care and addressing implicit bias are vital steps toward equitable care. Language matters, and eliminating stigmatizing terminology is a necessary aspect of fostering trust and understanding between patients and providers. In the journey toward improving SCD care, collaboration, research, and advocacy play pivotal roles. Together, these measures can create a more compassionate, patient-centered health care system that honors the unique experiences and challenges faced by individuals with SCD.
