Effects of career adaptability on university fresh graduates' perceived future employability and career motivation: employed versus unemployed

摘要
This study compared career adaptability's effect on career motivation and perceived future employability among employed and unemployed fresh graduates. A cross-sectional survey design was utilised with 457 (64.1% women; Mage = 23.07, SD 1.24) fresh graduates from Malaysian public and private universities. Career adaptability dimensions were found to have different effects on perceived future employability and career motivation dimensions for unemployed versus employed participants. The significant and positive effect of career adaptability in promoting positive career outcomes suggested that relevant stakeholders should emphasise on the provision of opportunities or professional training to improve fresh graduates' career adaptability to promote successful transition into employment. Este estudio compar & oacute; el efecto de la adaptabilidad profesional en la motivaci & oacute;n profesional y la percepci & oacute;n de empleabilidad futura entre graduados recientes empleados y desempleados. Se utiliz & oacute; un dise & ntilde;o de encuesta transversal con 457 (64.1% mujeres; Medad = 23.07, DE 1.24) graduados recientes de universidades p & uacute;blicas y privadas de Malasia. Se encontr & oacute; que las dimensiones de la adaptabilidad profesional tienen diferentes efectos en la percepci & oacute;n de la empleabilidad futura y las dimensiones de la motivaci & oacute;n profesional para los participantes desempleados versus empleados. El efecto significativo y positivo de la adaptabilidad profesional en la promoci & oacute;n de resultados profesionales positivos sugiri & oacute; que los interesados relevantes deber & iacute;an enfatizar en la provisi & oacute;n de oportunidades o formaci & oacute;n profesional para mejorar la adaptabilidad profesional de los graduados recientes para promover una transici & oacute;n exitosa hacia el empleo.
