A solar energy system with a dual-input power converter and global MPPT for off-grid applications

摘要
This study presents the development of a 200 W standalone solar power generation system. The system incorporates a simple dual-input power converter, utilizing a 200 W photovoltaic (PV) panel and a battery set as primary energy sources. Advanced PV charge controller technology is integrated, enabling the system to supply power to the load while charging the battery under varying environmental conditions. To enhance efficiency, the system employs a global maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique, achieving up to 99 % MPPT efficiency, even in partially shaded or uniform sunlight conditions. Additionally, the system offers flexible frequency and duty cycle adjustments, maintaining total harmonic distortion (THD) below 0.087 % to ensure high-quality power output. For outdoor installations, a lightning protection device has been incorporated to safeguard the system from lightning damage, thereby improving overall stability. Simulated and experimental validation confirm the system's suitability for standalone applications, demonstrating high efficiency and practical feasibility. Ultimately, this power generation system not only functions as a 200 W power control device but can also be expanded into a plug-and-play microinverter, making it suitable for home use and promoting the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
