摘要
Background:Periodontal health is a critical component of overall oral health, influenced by factors such as age, gender, and specific dental regions.Materials and Methods:This study involved a cohort of participants with a gender distribution of 60% female and 40% male. The BPE scores were assessed for six sextants in the oral cavity. The mean BPE scores were calculated for each sextant, and correlations between age and BPE scores were analyzed. Inferential analysis using t-tests was conducted to evaluate gender differences in BPE scores across sextants. Results:The gender distribution showed a higher number of female participants (60%) compared to male participants (40%). The mean BPE scores indicated that sextants 1, 3, and 5 had relatively higher scores, with means of 1.5, 1.5, and 1.7, respectively, suggesting more periodontal issues compared to sextants 2, 4, and 6, which had mean scores of 0.8, 1.2, and 1.0, respectively. The correlation matrix highlighted a strong positive correlation between age and BPE scores for sextants 1 and 3 (0.835), indicating a higher incidence of periodontal issues with increasing age. Sextant 4 also showed a moderate correlation with age (0.694). T-tests revealed no statistically significant differences in BPE scores between genders for all sextants, with P values greater than 0.05.Conclusions:The study underscores the influence of age on periodontal health, particularly in sextants 1, 3, and 4, while gender does not significantly impact BPE scores. These findings emphasize the need for targeted dental care and monitoring, especially for older adults, to maintain periodontal health.
