For the proper functioning of the road, it is essential to have pavements with adequate behavior. SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) mixtures are considered mixtures with very good characteristics, but high cost. The present work, however, aims to demonstrate, in a quantitative manner, the properties of this type of mixtures with respect to the conventional or more used ones in Spain. To carry out the study, several laboratory tests will be used, as well as auscultations carried out on mixtures actually executed. The study of the tests seeks to quantify the differences between the types of mixtures, in addition to limiting the differences in terms of useful life of the two types of mixtures. © 2024 Asociacion Espanola de la Carretera.
