Screw compressors for air conditioning and refrigeration application

Screw compressors, as positive displacement machines, are especially well suited in the compression of refrigerants due to their special characteristics. The following description is based on the typical requirements of such compressors in comparison with other positive displacement principles. Later the different constructive features and operating behaviour will be explained and discussed with the help of measured results. The possibilities available with the highly efficient capacity regulator combined with the automatic Vi-control for the screw compressor will also be explained. Finally, some typical application designs for screw compressors ranging between 46m3/h and 250m3/h are shown, i.e. fully hermetic compressors for use in transport, semi hermetic compressors for single and compound systems, compact screw compressors for chiller systems and finally an open version for refrigerants like Ammonia.
