An investigation of the mechanism of nonlinear absorption of infrared radiation in OsO//4 demonstrated that at relatively high gas pressures ( greater than 1 mm Hg) the bleaching was mainly due to the thermal mechanism. A strong infrared fluorescence of molecular OsO//4 in the field of high-power CO//2 laser radiation was observed at lambda equals 5. 3 and 10. 6 mu and investigated. The role of ″hot″ bands in the thermal mechanism of the absorption of laser radiation by osmium tetraoxide molecules was considered.
