摘要
The article discusses the U. S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Civilian Radioactive Waste Management Program (CRWM). Its goal is to permanently store or dispose of an estimated 70,000 metric tons (or more) of high-level nuclear waste from civilian and defense sources and spent fuel from commercial nuclear reactors. This article focuses primarily on the ground water aspects of the story. Subjects covered include repository site selection, characteristics of sites selected under the program, and others.
