This paper outlines the special requirements for the casting of a 7000-kg nodular cast iron ingot with a wall thickness of 290 mm and a ferritic structure obtained directly during the casting operation. The authors emphasize the effect of raw material purity, the importance of chemical analysis of the cast iron, and the importance of using a cerium nodularization alloy in achieving a successful casting.
