TRAJECTORY TRACKING FOR A CAPACITY PLANNING MODEL.

A comparison is made between optimal control results obtained by V. V. S. Sarma and K. Ramchand and results obtained in this correspondence using perfect tracking techniques. It is shown that for the model presented by Sarma and Ramchand, the use of perfect tracking techniques enables one to obtain analytic results, thereby eliminating the need for sensitivity analysis. A trajectory obtained using perfect tracking techniques is presented for comparison with trajectories obtained using optimal control methodology in their work. The comparison indicates that optimal control methodology as it is currently applied is not appropriate for application to fleet and facility planning models.
