The ASTM Board of Directors has named a team to study the feasibility of adopting the ISO 9000 series to the operations of ASTM. The article discusses why there should be an interest in the International Quality Standards. These standards are becoming a de facto market requirement. They recognize 20 distinct elements in a quality system and list the requirements for each element in a separate section. ISO 9000 benefits are pointed out.
