Water content in petroleum products and bituminous materials can be determined by a new method using a Coulometric Karl Fischer titrator. To validate the capability of the new method, a study was conducted to compare the existing standard method with the titration method. The study was conducted in a commercial, production-oriented laboratory, using a variety of recently obtained petroleum samples. Water content was determined for each sample by both methods, and the results were compared and statistically evaluated for correlation to the standard method, precision, detection sensitivity, and analysis time.
