Stricter safety requirements have led to the further development of emergency power supplies for nuclear power plants. Redundancy and spatial separation are achieved by means of sectionalized diesel plants. Draft Standard DIN 25 417, Sheet 5, provides guidelines on the layout of the diesel engine, generator, supply and auxiliaries, erection and servicing, and also on reliability. D. C. installations and conversion plant also tend towards sectionalized design. The requirements relating to aseismic layout of electrical components are described together with the self-sufficient electrical systems essential for LWR emergency arrangements.
