A new design of a V-shape patch antenna for broadband dual-frequency operation is proposed. The radiating V-shape patch, supported by nonconducting post, is placed above the ground plane, and an H-shape coupling slot is cut in the ground plane and centered below the V-shape patch. Through the H-shape slot, electromagnetic energy is coupled from a microstrip feed line, printed on the other side of the ground plane, to the V-shape patch. Experimental results show that the proposed V-shape patch antenna can perform broadband dual-frequency operation. The impedance bandwidths, determined from 10 dB return loss, of the two operating frequencies can both be greater than 10%. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed.
