A new generation of silicone rubbers for wire and cable insulation which features greatly improved long-term thermal stability, yet retains the stability to withstand short aging cycles at extremely high temperatures. Unlike many of its predecessors, the new family of rubbers does not rely on red iron oxide to enhance thermal stability, and so it can be pigmented many different colors. As supplied, the new group of rubbers exhibit premium physical properties. The base rubbers can be extended with low-cost fillers for applications that do not require optimum physical or thermal properties, and they can be made flame resistant by incorporating commercially available modifiers.
