SCEROV (System for Characterization and Evaluation of ROVs) is a unique basis for objective evaluation and comparison of ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicle) as to inspection quality, time efficiency, weather dependence, reliability, safety and mobilization. SCEROV was developed to be able to investigate the use of ROVs for carrying out inspection and NDT on steel structures, risers and pipelines. Inspection requirements from different nations and organizations were investigated, and detailed standard inspection programs were investigated, and detailed standard inspection programs adapted to the use of ROVs were worked out. 5 ROVs were evaluated according to SCEROV. A survey of existing ROVs worldwide, with emphasis on applicability for steel structure and pipeline inspection, was accomplished.
