摘要
The geology of the Deep Basin, located in Western Alberta and Eastern British Columbia, is complex. Prior to 1976 the region had been explored sporadically primarily to investigate the potential in the deeper rocks with little expectation that the shallower zones would be productive. These shallower zones of relatively low quality reservoir rocks are the source of the current interest in the Deep Basin. Estimates of natural gas resource potential of the Deep Basin range up to 440 trillion cubic feet. Prior to the discovery of gas in the Deep Basin, proved accumulations of gas-in-place in Alberta and B. C. were 145 TCF and 18 TCF, respectively. The potential of the Deep Basin must be viewed as significant in Canada's future energy planning.
